plextor, teak, velo & thas about it are the ones I know work really well
in linux or windows.

Plextors what I own.  Pioneer too... thats theother one but...they may
not make em anymore.

My cd burner is a PLEXTOR CD-R   PX-W4012A and it works flawlessly.  

DVD Rom is a ATAPIModel DVD-116 0122...again works great.
