Until this reared it's head, to me an ATAPI drive was an ATAPI drive. It would never have occurred to me that it might be non-compliant. In the UK that is certainly a matter for the Trades Descriptions Act. There must be similar protection elsewhere? Hopefully you get your money back, and even better the crims get to feel the burn.
