In the first place, I would say that perhaps no-one told him that 'upgrading' is risky, and installing a parallel system much safer, so he has suffered more than he needed to.
The gist of the question was 'why should I upgrade?'. My answer would be because you like a gamble. If this is not so, then don't. To the question 'why should I move to 9.2' , a very different question, I can't answer, because I haven't done it yet, so I don't know what benefits he would most value.
