Hi There,

Where can I download the Mandrake packages for LaTex? I am planning to use
it with all my paper work afterwards. If anyone can tell me where to find a
tutorial about install LaTex it should be very great. By the way, Can anyone
compare it with word processor such as KWORD? Many thanks.

Lyx and latex is a fine tool provided that the templates you are given
are up your street.
Otherwise you must learn Latex in order to create your own
templates. It's not simple to do that, but possible given some effort.
One of the drawbacks is that you have to buy a book by one of the
authors oy Latex, whose name I cannot quite remember, Donald something?
and it is fairly expensive.

Kword is much more than a word processor. To call it a word processor is
to cheapen it.
Unlike Lyx and Latex you can easily create your own templates without
much more than ordinary word processor skills.

Both apps can do that all important numbering system. That is where, if
for instance you are writing a book or thesis and you want to number
the chapters, paragraphs, sub paragraphs, and sub,sub paragraphs etc
etc.but don't want to sit down before hand and compose a rigid plan of
it's layout but want to build it up step by step inserting elements
here and there , taking bits out and generally rearrange the layout as
you go along, well then the numbering changes automatically for you as
you go along, it is intelligent enough to make the adjustments by means
of the way you employ the chapter/page layout settings. It really is a
must .

Both apps have many fonts and styles.

Both have spell checkers.

Both can now import a variety of inserts, from boxes, photo's , scans,
etc etc.

One slight drawback to Lyx and Latex is that quite often you spend some
considerable time preparing a lengthy document and go to print it off
and you get some error message about a "latex error better fix it", and
of course noone tells you how, which is off putting. Maybe it's got
better since Iast used it , because as you can tell I have found kword
do everything I need of it without the hastle.
At the end of the day it's nearly always fonts that are the deciding
factor, especially if you require something specialised as in the
scientific or art world.
