I still cannot figure out how to get rid of the gui boot screen and return to my normal vga=791 black and white boot screen.
It must be something simple, but what?
John, I have the nice, black screen writing all the [OK]'s.
My lilo.conf has this append-line. Try it.
append="nopentium noapic devfs=mount hdd=ide-scsi acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 "
vga=791
nopentium noapic = nothing to do with graphics, devfs=mount = mine to hdd=ide-scsi = mine to acpi=ht = nothing to do with boot graphics resume=/dev/hda5 = never seen this before but I doubt if it's anything to do with boot script. vga=791 = same as me controls screen resolution,not choice of boot script message style.
at one time I thought ,
message=/boot/message
might control it, but if I hash it out and run lilo all that happens is you loose the pleasant gui splash screen containing choice of OS's to boot, so I unhashed it , because the basic thing is ugly.
so then I thought maybe,
install=/boot/boot.b
but no , actually you can hash this out because /boot/boot.b is defaulted anyway, but man lilo.conf says
install=<boot-loader>
two boot loaders are available: boot-text.b and boot-menu.b, with boot.b is a symbolic link to the latter.
If `install' is omitted, /boot/boot.b is used as the default.
Beginning with version 22, a third user-interface,
boot-bmp.b, is available.
This presents a GUI interface, the background for which is selected with "bitmap=".
(Version 22.3): The selection of the user interface with "install=" is dependent upon the presence of the substrings "text", "menu", or "bmp" in the parameter to the "install=". The boot loaders selected are no longer files, but are contained within the boot-installer binary /sbin/lilo. If "install=" is omitted, the default boot loader is "menu", unless "bitmap=" is
specified (see above), in which case the boot loader "bmp" will be selected.
but I don't want the gui boot script
So I don't get it.
