Personally I'd recommend setting up ssh and using sftp as a service. It's safer than running a standard ftp server not even thinking of all the hassle in getting it securely configured. After installing and setting up your ssh-server you can access the directories you want using konqueror, gftp, etc.. or simply "scp file.local URL:/file.remote" on the CML.
