Well, you don't say which version you installed. There's still a lot
of people installing Mandrake 6.0. You should really consider
upgrading it with the latest kernel rpm and initscripts rpm available.
Second, if you are still having problems. make a boot floppy and a
rescue disk and boot to them. The images are on your cd under the
/images directory. If you have access to a Windows machine, there's a
file in there called rawrite.exe in the /dosutils directory. Use that
to create the two floppies you'll need. Then, still the "boot" floppy
in your floppy drive, start the computer, and boot off the floppy.
Then when the prompt comes up, type "rescue" and swap floppies to the
"rescue" disk when prompted.
Once you're logged in, you should know which drive/partition was not
cleanly unmounted, then run e2fsck /dev/hdxx (or sdxx if you're using
SCSI.) and that should clean up the problem. Just hit "enter" each
time a question comes up. Eventually it'll prompt you to remove the
floppy and hit "ctrl+d" to reboot. At that point, it SHOULD be clean
and ready for updating.
