Hi Robin, Thanks for the response. I checked that file (XF86Config-4) and there was an error. My laptop display was listed as a Vaio but I changed it to a generic. That has always given me the best performance. It's actually a Dell Inspiron but using any of those options breaks my video. However, fixing the display didn't affect the boot into login problem. Can you point me to the start up log so I can determine the flashing blue screen. I'm pretty sure that will have some clues.
