You got a typo in your link there; should be http://www.httptech.com/ppa The ppa driver works as you said just in b&w for the moment, but there's a color driver in development. Currently in alpha stage I think, but I've tried it out with my 720c and it prints ok. Check out the ppa web site for more info.
