Ehmm, mandrake installs tarballs fine but you DO have to have the kernel-source package installed for your particular kernel. I do quite a lot of tarball installs and don't come across more probs than on on other distro's. Using urpmi is the easiest and prolly the best option, I agree...just wanted to put that comment right before it gets a life of it's own. Sorry;) Good luck, HarM > anyway.
