This is the loopback interface, and could be your problem.  This entry is 
added by the tmdns service.  If you are running a single box with no network, 
using dial-up for Internet, this could be your problem.  Try removing the 
tmdns package and seeing if that helps.

tmdns provides dns services on small networks without a dhcp or dns server.  
if you are a single box and using dial-up then you don't need it, since 
/etc/hosts will always be used for local name resolution anyway.
