Yeah, I would too. I've never had the time or patience to learn. With my
luck it would turn into a Dos Batch file!

Does 'checkinstall' make actual RPMs?

When I get a tarball off the Internet and go through the configure and make commands, I let 'checkinstall' do the actual installation because I was under the impression 'checkinstall' will make an RPM entry into Mandrake's Software Manager section so everything can be removed from the Uninstall Packages menus. (I'm not entirely convinced that 'checkinstall' actually removes all the files off the computer.)

During the installation process with 'checkinstall', it asks which type of RPM you'd like to create.

I've never figured out if 'checkinstall' makes the actual RPM and there is a file somewhere on computer.
Perhaps 'checkinstall' can do this job.

(I was curious about this thread because I've always been on the PC side and have never developed a liking for icons in a file manager system. I'm using Midnight Commander for the file management duties.)
