Avi,

If you download the NVIDIA run file (www.nvidia.com) this will build the module for you if you have the kernel source installed. You also have some extra command line options this way, and one of them is to uninstall the module.

Tony.

So far the attempt to build my own module is a disaster. Attempting to build it ends up with the following error:

Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename

I have the kernel sources installed and I have booted using the kernel I am trying to build the Nvidia module for. I searched around for a solution and even tried the

export SYSSRC=/usr/src/linux

solution with the same result. Ran the installer in expert mode and everything was pointing to the right directories.

I even extracted the tarball and then ran the installer with the --add-this-kernel options. When then I tried to run the installer on the new custom installer I ended up with the eror:

error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko': -1 Invalid module format.

Oh Mandrake, please fix this annoyance. Make sure to release the drivers at the same time you release a new kernel. How can you be taken seriously if users need to choose between having X running or having a secure system.

Avi
