I have already copied the appropriate lines into modprobe.conf ..etc As you said it is necessary as the Club RPM doesnt do it for you.
Reading your last point out the device /dev/modem being a link to the /dev/tts/LT0 is making me think perhaps the best solution is to see if I can get kppp to point directly to /dev/tts/LT0 rather than via the link. I can recall of the top of my head if Kppp will let me do this.. When I log off ill check it out.. Ill report back..
