Sorry I haven't been around folks. My DNS server somehow managed to get seriously borked - Big Time! I decided to take a few days to try some other solutions - other than Mandrake that is. What a mistake!
The whole thing turned into a nightmare. Either I found something that installed and configured quickly - but didn't have all the features I needed, or I found something that had all the features, but didn't work for one reason or another!
This "experiment" took the last 5 days! Phew! Now that Mandrake's back in, all is well once again.
Let that be a lesson to the feint-at-heart! Stick with what works!
So,....What have I missed?

Welcome home, Lanman.
Please tell us where you've been : CP/M ? , DOS ? , Windows ? , OS/2 ? , Mac ? , AmigaOS ? . -- Just in case you are contagious.

Sorry Guys! But my problems were related to Linux and hardware! No Microsoft solutions would have done the trick, so i didn't even consider them as a possibility. Being the stodgy kind of guy that i am, i decided to wade thru 7 distro's and a small army of firewall distro's as well.
It was definitely an adventure, but waaaayyyyyy too problematic. Seems that most distro's have their own quirks about how to configure certain apps, or don't offer all the things that I needed, while others simply don't work. I wasn't about to start learning new server-apps when i already had good solutions ready to go. If only my hard drive hadn't started making that grinding, squeaking noise like bad disc brakes, things would have gone much smoother! I was beginning to think I had mice or cats in the server case!
So I ended up doing a major upgrade to a 286 with 16 megs of ram, 40 MB hard drive and a 512K ISA video card! Wow! What an improvement! Now i can move the mouse across the screen and the system doesn't crash anymore!
All i hafta do now is to load those 60 websites back on the system along with the database, and my new server is ready to go!
So, I ended up back at Mandrake and all is well. Postfix for example is a total nightmare on some distro's, but takes only seconds to configure on Mandrake.
I see that everyone here still has the same sick and twisted sense of humour - Vic-20's and Commodore 64's ? Well, I got ya all beat! I'm fully certified on an Abacus! So there! Let's see you compile on one of those!
Of course, the parchment that my certificate is written on in currently at the Smithsonian, but so what?
Oh, by the way, Kaj! Byte your tongue for mentioning DOS, OS/2 and Winders! That was just plain cruel!
Good to be back. Again!
Lanman
(OK, all kidding aside, it's not REALLY a 286!)
