Linuxant does charge for their software, which is not to everyone's satisfaction I realize. The drivers are high quality software however, and can usually effectively transform a conexant hcf or hsf chipset winmodem into a high performance linmodem. I get better performance from my conexant hcf under Linux now than I can under ms windows.
