There's been a thread on the Cooker list about problems with 0.7 and 0.9 Thunderbird and Firefox, respectively ... seems many are having problems. Some have reported that running either/both of them as root first has solved the non-start problem; others have suggested removing the profile(s) -- still others reported that neither of the above have helped them.
Can't speak to either upgrade personally, as I've held off after seeing others' difficulties with them. I'll wait, and that would be my suggestion (beyond trying the run-as-root method, since it's nondestructive :-).
