KDE always uses arts for sound. But the _sound system_ (the arts daemon) uses either ALSA or OSS drivers. I think that you, since the ALSA module is built into the 2.6.xx kernels, may be better to have xmms use the arts plug-in so KDE can control the priority, but switch the sound system (menu>system>configuration>sound>Sound System) to ALSA. Then there shouldn't be any more scheduling conflicts. My "KDE is starting" is clear, so are the media players for movies, mp3s, oggs, and disks. > Does it matter?
