Hi everyone,

Lately more and more mail I send out gets intercepted and returned
through a system called Sorbs (http://www.dnsbl.nl.sorbs.net).

Seems that this is a system that is used by several mailservers to
verify 'official' mail servers. (Probably to weed out spammers.)

The message I get is

host rbl.livjm.ac.uk[150.204.254.42] said: 521 The
IP xxx.xxx.xx.xx is Blacklisted by dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net.RDynamic IP
Address
See: http://www.dnsbl.sorbs.net/cgi-bin/lookup?IP=xxx.xxx.xx.xx (in
reply
to RCPT TO command)

When I look up my IP-address on that site I see:

Dynamic IP Space (LAN, Cable, DSL & Dial Ups)
Netblock: 217.120.0.0/14 (217.120.0.0-217.123.255.255)
Record Created: Mon Nov 24 18:27:07 2003 GMT
Record Updated: Mon Nov 24 18:27:07 2003 GMT
Additional Information: [Dynablock] Dynamic IP address, use your ISPs mail
server

Does anyone know how I can keep using Postfix instead of having to use
my ISPs mail server? The latter is down VERY much, making it a pita to
use.

There is not much you can do. You will need to find a mail server to relay through. I can see this becomming more of a problem in the future. What may have to happen is for one of the places that manages DNS for sites with dynamic IPs to start offering a relaying mail server as part of the package. Or posibly listing valid mail source IP addresses using something like http://spf.pobox.com. Not much help for you right now though. And changing maal programs, or your local configuration will not help, unless you have a server to realy through. Maybe it is time to have a talk to your ISP, or start shopping for a new one with a better mail server?

The way I solved it was to pay for a web hosting that included a mail server. At $10/year, it is worth it for me. The web site is mainly a joke, and doesn't get much trafic, but the mail server gets a real workout.
