Take it back and get a USR fax/modem that's not labeled "PCI" or "winmodem."
Sorry to be so blunt, by I would rather let my CPU do other things than
run my modem.
I love my 3COM/USR V.Everything 56K Internal modem. It took me 5 minutes to
install it and make it work with LINUX. The 3COM manual has 1 page devoted
to LINUX. I followed the instructions, intalled the modem, and loaded KPPP
under LINUX. It worked first time...I just set KPPP to use /dev/ttsy1
(ttsy1 since I set the jumper on the modem to COM2). The V.Everything works
great with Win95OSR2, NT4, and LINUX.
Check out http://www.pricewatch.com or http://www.shopper.com for the best
prices out there.
If your patient, which I'm not, you could check out http://www.linmodems.org
and see if there is any progress on this topic.
HTH,
Matt
