You saved my day, Anne.  I just changed 
my /etc/mandrakelinux-release to Official, went to the easy-urpmi 
site and changed all my sources to 10.1 OE.  Then updated 
everything ( not that there was many packages,though ) so now I'm 
on 10.1 official, I suppose.

But the USB problem remains, nevertheless.  Looking forward to the 
upgrades.

By now I must be qualified as a Microsoft Certified Engineer, what 
with the about 40 reboots I made today...
