The easy way for a newbie to install applications like fluxbox is as a binary
RPM package. Fluxbox is in the contrib folder on any Mandrake mirror.
Go here http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and follow the online instructions to add
online sources for 'contrib', 'plf', and 'updates' (if you have not already
defined an update source)
You can then add fluxbox from your software install GUI, or from a root
terminal with 'urpmi fluxbox'

Installing the binary RPM package will work better than compiling it yourself
because the RPM package is configured to use the Mandrake Menu structure so
that the menus appear automatically in fluxbox, just like in KDE. The version
you compiled will require menus to be constructed by hand. The RPM package
will also automatically put an entry into the list of available Window
Managers in your login manager.

You can also get a more recent version of fluxbox from Charles Edwards'
download site at http://www.eslrahc.com/ Follow the instructions to add it
as an online urpmi source. Your system will automatically select the most
recent version of fluxbox to install.

Once you have tried out fluxbox, then give Enlightenment, xfce, IceWM, and
Blackbox a go. They are all available as RPM Mandrake packages.
(Yes Joe I know pekwm is better, but its not so easy to install)
