The standard 10.1 kernel is compiled for i686 which will not work on a PIII The installer is supposed to install the kernel version 'kernel-i586-up-1GB' on a PIII, but I have read reports that it still installs the standard kernel with some processors (I have seen this with a Via C3 processor). If you can boot with your Suse CD (or with your Mandrake CD in 'rescue' mode), then install the i586 kernel using the Mandrake Install GUI.
