Install Webmin. Once you have Webmin installed and you login, you can click on SERVERS, then Samba Server, then SWAT - do all your Samba configurations through there and you will have no worries. The XP box and MDK box should be in the same workgroup (like home, or whatever); once you've gotten that bit straight and restarted the smb services, you can once again use Webmin to configure your printer on the XP box (click HARDWARE => Printers and follow the directions). Very simple actually.
