I had a simialr experience - easier than windows. The guy I did it for said it worked better than windows.

Strangely, he went back to using windows - he didn't like having to enter a password when booting up!

I am running a Lucent chipset "winmodem" in my laptop under 9.2. No problems, but I don't have any processor intensive processes going in the background when I use dialup... (I normally use a wireless connection to a router connected to a DSL.)
