Just on the side here, if you are not comfortable with the command line yet, you should not try to log in to a graphical environment as root. With Mandrake, you do not need to, and this option has been disabled starting from mdk9.2 I think. This is why you searched in vain for the option in the graphical startup mode. This does not mean that you don't have full control of your machine. It just means that you have a buffer to absorb your initial mistakes, and this is called a user account. Using the info in all the above replies, you should be able to get a user account back on its feet, which will enable you to perform administrator level tasks through kdesu, sudo, etc. Andras
