Just a note for general information of the list. I had a problem
with FireFox 1.0 persisting to recognize BitTornado as my
*.torrent default application even after uninstalling
BitTornado and reinstalling BitTorrent and listing
BitTorrent as the only application associated with *.torrent
files in kcontrol>Components>Associations.

I finally resolved the problem by deleting a file
called BitTornado.keys in /usr/share/mime-info/.
This file was left on my computer despite my
removal of BitTornado - probably because I had
previously installed BitTornado via the ./configure,
make, make install method.

I believe that the association of BitTornado as the
default/preferred application for *.torrent files
persisted because alpahbetically "BitTornado.keys"
preceded "BitTorrent.keys", or "Mozilla-Firefox.keys",
or any other /usr/share/mime-info/ *.keys file which
reflected the file to application association set
by kcontrol>Components>Associations.

Thanks again for all the responses to my inquiry.

How do I dump BitTornado as the default application and get
BitTorrent back as my default application to download *.torrent
files?

Thanks in Advance,

Check kcontrol > Components > File Associations. Make sure that BitTorrent is at the top of the list of possible apps.
