Sorry - my description was as I remembered it from 10.0.  10.1 does it 
differently.  My usb floppy drive was mounted as I described, but now it 
shows up as a second floppy on the Mount Points screen.  Selecting that, then 
options gives me the opportunity to set 'user'.  Doesn't your gizmo act the 
same way?

For the moment, just try putting 'user,' between the umask statement and 
iocharset, then as root, 'mount -a'.
