I have an IBM travelstar dbca-206480 hdd I need to install MDK on it
does anyone know of an illistration on hooking the adapter to the drive?

Some more information would be helpfull. This is a laptop harddrive, right? Are you trying to install it in a laptop, a desktop system, or an externel case? It you are not putting it in a laptop, what type of adaptor are you using? Chances are, the adapter instructions are what you need in this case, and they are adapter specific.

If you just need the drive jumper settigns, you can download dbca_ps.pdf
from IBM, and it will give you all you need.

The drive is going back into the laptop after installing Mdk 10.1 on it
The adapter didn't come with any instructions but I have the stripe on the IDE cable aligned with the 1 mark on the adapter , this leaves 4 pins separated by a small gap from the other pins I am assuming that these are the master/slave jumpers

Yes, they are. Master is no jumper, slave is the last two, and cable select is lower two. Pin 1 on the drive is on the gap side of the 44 pin group.
