Hi Bill, I can share my experience oh this. I installed my mdk10.1 over 9.2 retaining /home . Everything went smoothly. When I run kmail, it instantly recognized the old mail directory. It asked me whether I want to use it and convert all the emails (yes, it changed the directory from /home/Mail to /home/.Mail CMIIW).
