Forte-agent is an offline newsreader, isn't it?  There are several of those 
freely available for Linux.  I'm sure one of them would feel comfortable to 
you, but you may have to look at a few to find the one you like best.

I'm sure I have seen *some* Bible software, though I can't remember what.  
You'd have to google for that.  I do recall, though, that BibleWorks runs 
under Wine, so maybe you could google to see if your package will as well.
