The command line interface (CLI) is actualy older. It predates MSDOS.
But for this type of task, it works better then a GUI. Besides, writing
instructions for the CLI is easer then writing instructios for the GUI
when you can not be sure what GUI the person is going to be running, or
even if the machine it is being run on has a GUI yet.
