It's not all user (dis) functionality though. ;-) Kwikdisk only docks into a panel if I had logged on as a user but not as root. I'm not able to change the permissions either.
I think my confusion stems from having used a different ppc distro before Mandrake and expecting programs to work in a similar way. Having said that, I'm now working with some programs I could never have got working with the old distro.
