...h k maybe we should send some of our bean counters over, you know the bigger predator kills the smaller...OTOH I've read somewhere (Tom Clancy, perhaps ?) that within the American Police killing a lawyer isn't considered a crime at all... just an idea. The frame buffer question is a little hairy, depends on your graphics card, but take a look here : http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/BootPrompt-HOWTO-5.html In order to display a graphical interface Linux uses a X server. That's because Linux was designed as a networked system in the first place. You,ll definitely want one. Mandrake comes with a server from Xorg nowadays (earlier it was XFree86). It's on your CD's. At your command prompt (as root) try : urpmi xorg-x11 h k - Some recommendations : I think you'll need a few applications until you can get to the GUI. Just urpmi the following : slocate (a file database). After install, just (as root) run "updatedb". Then, to find a file, type : "locate <filename>". mc (Midnight Commander). A Norton-like file manager and editor. To display your system, type :"mc". To edit a file, type :"mcedit <filename>". When you have a GUI, you'll need the "drakes". Those are graphical configuration tools. Their names are descriptive, like "userdrake", "menudrake", "keyboarddrake" etc.. You can install them by (as root) : "urpmi --fuzzy drake" and then select the ones you want.
