I ran it on a P-II 450Mhz with 10Gb, several years ago. So your old machine should be up to the task. Installing is rather straightforward, if I remember correctly. Install the package, install the kernel-headers for your kernel, run some script to build the proper video-support and that should be it. When you fire it up, you see an actual pc booting in a window. So make sure you have a bootfloppy or boot-cd handy.
