Hmmm. That's a new one to me. I've never has problems with HP Laserjet 4 printers in Linux. Ever. Do you have the CUPS and HPOJ packages installed Carlton?


If you decide to install cups, make sure you also grab the cups-common and cups-drivers packages as well. That might be your whole problem. While you're at it, make sure that Linux sees your printer port.

Try 'lsmod' to make sure that the printer port driver modules have been loaded. You should see something like;

parport_pc             32132  1
lp                      9836  0
parport                32040  2 parport_pc,lp

in the list of installed hardware drivers.
