If I understand the GPL correctly, that's impossible.
I believe that GPL says something that you must distribute the source code
together with the software or make it easily available to whoever wants it.
The Linux kernel and many if not most of the programs that come with a
distribution follow this licence, it would be impossible for any company to
keep the source code closed. I welcome MS to try and make their own *nix
version which I believe they tryed once. I guess that that's something they
need to do if they want to make something good.
Personally, my preferences are like follows:
Netscape as a web browser (also use KFM) and an operating system that allows ME
to make the desitions of how to run and what to do whitout having to pay major
$ to a company.
There might be a possibility that IE could get ported to Linux (shouldn't be to
har using existing Unix source), but MS is as I percieve in war with us (users
of alternative operating systems especially Linux). No one has officially
pronounced war, but M$ is putting quite a bit of mony to the task to make Linux
look like an inferior operating system. They even have devoted serverspace on
their own servers to this task.
