I had this just yesterday, and after mucking around a great deal, I found that after setting the new association with rightclick_on_file > Properties > Edit File Type (spanner icon) > General tab > "Add" whatever in "application preference order" > go to Embedding tab > click on "show file in separate viewer" > click apply > go back to general tab > click apply again (just in case) > click OK (and maybe click apply again beforehand.) I've just rebooted this morning, and pdf remained associated with acroread, and nedit remained a second option for .ps btw, its Mdk10.0 and KDE. cheers Andras
