Hey all...
Totally new to the Linux thing, but not new to the Unix thing. Though
familiar with Unix, I have never had to install it, and being totally new to
Linux, have no clue why I am having problems.
I'm running a Abit BE6 motherboard, Celeron500, 128MB, 13GB Quantum fireball
UltraATA66, Guillemot 3D Prophet video (Nvidia GeForce256), and all the
other usual goodies... Monster sound, etc...
My main partition is, of course, this Win98 partition from which I am
mailing... I have over 3GB of unpartitioned space on this same HD to which I
am attempting to install Mandrake.
I have followed the Installation instructions to the letter, though I think
I have narrowed my problems down to the fact that my HD is UltraATA66...
Through the install, I always get up to the step where Mandrake asks me if I
want to use Disk Druid or Fdisk. When I attempt to use Disk Druid, it
informs me that there are no devices found on which to install the file
system. Fdisk also tells me the same thing, though it says that I may have
missed installing a SCSI adapter. But.. my HD isn't a SCSI HD...
This happens whether I attempt the install off the CD or off the HD itself.
I have gone into my system's bios as well... I am stumped... I have tried
every combination of fooling the install that I can think of, to no avail...
I have even used Partition magic to create Linux partitions on the HD, and
bypass the Fdisk/Disk Druid step.. doesn't work either...
I need some expert help! It has now turned into a personal crusade to get
this thing to run on my system...
