I am a long time DOS/Windows user that is trying L-M 6.0 to use as a firewall
(another story :)). However... in an effort to get Linux more usable for
myself, I (as well as many others) have downloaded many new/different
programs, most in RPM but quite a few in tar.gz. In most cases the tar.gz's
that I download mostly DO NOT seem to compile to a working program. I use the
built in KDE archiver to extract the src's to their own DIR and then read the
INSTALL/README's for the method of complie. I use the suggested method and
voila...NO installed program :( I get assorted ERROR msg's (none that come
readily to mind). Is it just me, my system, or the tarball that is at
fault???
TIA
