The steps I followed were:

1. create /usr/share/fonts/truetype
2. copy  truetype fonts to it
3  cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype
4  /usr/sbin/ttmkfdir > fonts.scale
5  mkfontdir
6  run chkfontpath --add /usr/share/fonts/truetype (as root)
