Dear friends: This is an update on the mysterious events surrounding my /home/sher/.Xauthority file. Well, I renamed /home/sher/.Xauthority to .Xauthority.old, rebooted, and the following happened: 1) At the console, when I typed startx, I once again got the message "timeout in locking authority file /home/sher/.Xauthority" (even though there is no longer an ".Xauthority" file since the file has been renamed ".Xauthority.old" 2) Still, I was able to get into KDE fine, and I am writing my letter to you from Netscape in KDE. 3) But there is no /home/sher/.Xauthority file in my home directory now, only the renamed .Xauthority.old file. Could someone please enlighten me on what's going on? Thank you so very much. Benjamin -- Benjamin and Anna Sher [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sher's Russian Web http://www.websher.net
