ok, basic rundown (if i neglected something important, let me know):

i have and EIDE interface, primary has 2 hd's, secondary has an ATAPI
cdrom and ATAPI CDRW. I would like to record some CDs, but i just can't
get it to work...
i read the howto and searched on the web and in books, and the info i
gathered stated that i have to set scsi emulation. ok, so i did that, as
well as the generic scsi and normal scsi support. compiled the modules,
etc.
didn't work.
back to the web.
found an article on making sure that the scsi drivers are compiled in
and not modularized. ok, so i go and compile it into the kernel. the
whole nine yards.
didn't work.
i rummaged some more and found a posting stating that i must disable my
IDE/ATAPI interface, otherwise the scsi emulation over the ATAPI will
not work.
back to compiling <sigh, groan>...
and...
as you can guess, lilo stopped dead.
added 'linear' to lilo.conf, still didn't work. (which raises the
question of how it worked BEFORE, when i didn't set the mode explicitly
to LBA. questions, questions.....but i digress.)
read something about setting 'hd<X>=ide-scsi' at the lilo.conf 'append'
column (whatever that is) or to punch it in at boot-up. neither worked.
(obviously.)
went back to ATAPI/IDE with scsi on module 'sg'. i tried insmod, but was
told that 'sg' is already loaded. i tried kerneld, and was told that,
since i have kmod running, i shouldn't worry about kerneld. "check the
kmod documentation", the friendly little messagebox states. well, a
search for kmod documentation has come up null and void (similar to my
patience reserve).
please help.
i want to burn CDs.
i have an atapi cdrw and interface and i was led to believe that they
must emulate scsi in order for cdrecorder, et alia, to work. and i just
can't seem to do it. 'cdrecord -scanbus' comes up empty (except for my
jaz drive)
ok, do your best.
