Are you using KPPP?
If so, open kppp, select your dial-up config, click on
"edit" and then, click on teh "IP" tab. Down at the bottom,
you'll see a check box for "Autoconfigure hostname from
this IP." Uncheck it.
Also, check your /etc/resolv.conf to see that it has the
proper DNS entries in there.
