type "startx" to get to a gui prompt. Or, edit your
/etc/inittab using joe, vi or any other console-based
editor (joe uses the old "wordstar" commands ^k is the
preface for everything) and make the following changes:
Change
id:3:initdefault:
to 
id:5:initdefault:

The id:5 will boot you straight to the GUI.
