[newbie] help

Can anyone help 

now tried corel linux and mandrake 6.5

video card will not set

install linux okay and runs

but display shows a section of entire display and you have to scroll around

also you get vertical blocks where screen just doesn't work

i have Compaq m700 wit ati mobility chipset
