I suggest you try out Linux, and see for yourself. From what you like to do, I
don't see a real need to run Linux (other than increased stability) but you
never know, you might just become hooked : ) I myself don't really have a real
need to run Linux, almost everything I do, I can do in Windows just as well.
I just use it because I find it interesting, and I find it more configurable and
powerful than Windows. I can mess around with my system, and stray into the
kinds of places that Windows doesn't want you to mess with. And it has tons of
free (and good) software for it! So go try it out, it can't really hurt you.
Linux doesn't have too many games, but it's getting better. Windows is
definitly better for that stuff. You can use ICQ and AIM in Linux, and there
are several MP3 players for it too. I didn't have to configure anything,
everything just worked. Some people have problems though, and have to mess with
the detailed stuff. It's hit and miss. But again, you'll never know if you
don't try. So go and get yourself a copy of Mandrake and try it out.
