Title: Linux boot loader failed to install

Last night, I installed Linux Mandrake (version 6.5 I think) and when the OS installation attempted to install the Linux boot loader, I received a message saying something like "error installing boot loader".

Prior to installing Linux, I was experiencing some problems with my hard drive. Such problems as not being able to delete partitions using Win98's FDISK among others. Therefore, I was finally able to delete all my partitions and start from scratch. I reinstalled Win98 and then inserted the Mandrake Disc 3 (which contains PartitionMagic). I setup the Linux partition and swap partition using this "freeware" version of PartitionMagic and proceeded to the install on Mandrake. When it got to the part about installing the Linux boot loader, I got the error I spoke of above.

I booted back into Windows, installed the BootMagic software that's also on the Disc 3 and it told me that BootMagic was already installed on a hidden partition. Could this be a problem with my Master Boot Record (MBR) and could BootMagic already be on my MBR?

I'd like to get up and running with Linux and start experiencing a "real" operating system without crashes (as the typical Windows user would see). ;-)
