Well I know for a fact that some of the lesser known brands are paper wieghts with Linux...I had a Delta 32X that was...I am using a brand name Toshiba 32X, with no problem at all. I would suggest getting a well supported brand name (Toshiba, Sony, Creative, Acer...).
