um
LOL

I am completely inexperienced in Linux, but in general, my computing skills
are fine.
This issue is not that I'm not booting to the CD, the issue is that the
ancient laptop CANNOT boot to the cdrom.
Anyways, I'm currently downloading Redhat 6.0 to try the HD based linload
vmlinuz image_file trick. If that doesn't work,
its off to FreeBSD I go, as it LIKES to install from the HD.

Still looking for advice from anyone who has previously beaten this problem.

Thanks,

Have you tried changing your BIOS making the laptop bootable from the CDROM?
Then you'll be able to install directly from there.
